Auditions notice


The next InPlayers production will be selection of one act plays by Noel Coward, originally performed under the title “Tonight at 8.30”.

Of the nine plays written for this collection, we will be performing 3.Ranging from dark drama to light comedy and something in between, so there should be something there for everyone.

One of these will be performed at the FEATS fringe in Antwerp (25 -28th May) and all 3 will be performed  in 7th, 8th & 9th June at de Balie.

 

The plays will be directed by Alex McKenzie.


There are several characters, some actors will play multiple parts. The characters are listed below. The ages are for guidance only – there is some flexibility.

 

Auditions will be held on the 29th January between 1 and 4.  Six people will audition at a time in 3 x 1 hour slots. Texts will be provided on the day. No preparation required.

WAYS AND MEANS
In a bedroom in Mrs. Lloyd Ransome's fabulous villa on the Cote d'Azur are heiress Stella Cartwright and her husband, young-ish and fond of gambling. They are plagued by debts and their prolonged stay at the villa is becoming embarrassing as everything seems to always go wrong for them. Their honour is saved just in time when a disgraced chauffeur tries to rob them.

THE ASTONISHED HEART
Christian Faber, a leading psychiatrist, falls passionately in love with Leonora Vail, an old friend of his wife. Leonora wilfully leads him on but is unprepared for the disastrous effect on him. Faber, more and more desperate, watches his own mind lose control of itself, with tragic consequences.

STILL LIFE
A chance encounter starts the love affair of Alec and Laura. The sadness of Alec and Laura's serious and secretive affair is contrasted throughout the play with the boisterous, uncomplicated relationship of Myrtle and Albert.

•    Laura Jesson – attractive woman in 30’s.
•    Myrtle Bagot – Runs the tearoom – 30-40’s
•    Beryl Waters – Myrtle’s assistant, young
•    Stanley – Alberts assistant , young
•    Albert Godby – ticket inspector, 30-40’s North country accent.

•    Alex Harvey – about 35. Doctor 
•    Young Man – in tearoom
•    Bill – soldier
•    Johnnie – soldier
•    Mildred – station assistant
•    Dolly Messiters – older
